Waldo is a dog with a story.
Waldo survived on his own the entire winter of 2007-2008. Numerous sightings of this brindle and white pit bull were reported to the animal shelter, but Waldo evaded every effort to capture him. A volunteer who lived in the area, named him “Waldo” as in “where’s Waldo”?
Eventually the smell of the delicious food in the dog trap did lead to Waldo’s capture and he moved into the comfort of the dog shelter. Waldo seemed to like the fact that he had a rug to sleep on and regular food. After a few weeks he even decided he liked the volunteers who took him for walks.
Waldo was enrolled in the “Canine Good Citizen” program where he quickly made progress. He learned to walk on a loose leash, to sit and lie down on command and walk near other dogs and disturbances. He received his vaccinations at the Scituate Animal Hospital and surprised everyone with his good manners.
Waldo was slightly lame when he entered the shelter, and an unfortunate mishap re-injured his right hind leg. He was removed from the training program until he was diagnosed. Waldo needs an operation to repair a torn ligament in his knee.
The volunteer organization is willing to pay for Waldo’s operation, but he should be in a home so that he is not in a cage during his recovery. If you are interested in adopting Waldo, who has certainly proved he deserves a forever home, the Friends will assist with his medical care. Once Waldo is well, he can return to complete his good Canine Good Citizen training.
